Together with saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, drummer Lesley Mok, cellist Tomeka Reid, and guitarist Mary Halvorson, Melford presents the Fire & Water repertoire to create "another set of extraordinary compositions" or "insertions," writes Wiener, "that Melford designed to intertwine with the original suite while remaining independent." According to Melford, "These new insertions I composed for the [Fire & Water] tour were super fun to play and I think they gave all of us a different kind of focus."
